Summer 1 Newsletter

We would like to welcome to Miss Toothill to Rainbow Base, she has joined us as the second nursery teacher. We are really pleased to have her and she is looking forward to getting to know all the children and learn all 104 names! She will be working with Red group in particular so please feel free to come and say hello and ask her any questions.

Reggio Emilia

During the Easter holidays Mrs Danby and Miss Mailhac went to visit a place in northern Italy called Reggio Emilia. They went there with some teachers from Leeds to find out about a way of teaching and learning. In Reggio Emilia they believe that respect, responsibility, and community are essential but also that children learn through exploring and discovering in an enriching environment that is based on the interests of the children. They thoroughly enjoyed their time in Italy and have come back full of ideas! Parents have already been really positive about some of the changes to the nursery classroom. We would love to share some of our ideas so please come and talk to us if you have any questions. 

Group Time

We would like to try a new routine when you drop your child off at the start of a session. Instead of your child going straight to choose an activity, we would like you to drop your child off with their key person and the other children in their group. This will allow us to have a calmer start to the day and give the staff a real opportunity to talk to the children about what they want to play with and learn about in the session. At the end of each session we would like to invite you to come and hear the children talk about what they have learnt. This is a new change for the children and so it may take a bit of time for them to get into the new routine but we are sure with your support we will see the benefits very soon. Miss Mailhac will be on the cloakroom door reminding you which group your child is in.

Little Talkers Language Group

The first sessions which are aimed at improving children’s speaking and listening skills have been going really well at Shepherds Lane Children’s Centre. We will be selecting the next group of children soon and will keep you posted.
