Green Team
The Green Team is a select sub-commitee of the School Council and is in charge of sustainability and green matters around school. The Green Team is leading the video documentary of our new school building and will be exploring what it means to have a new school and what green features the new school will have.
In the words of Green Team member Sanjida Pir:
“The Green Team is an interactive educational programme that empowers students and teachers to help the environment through waste reduction, reuse, recycling and composting.”
In November the Green Team met with Education Leeds Chief Executive, Chris Edwards. We talked with Mr Edwards about our new school and asked him some questions. At the meeting Mr Edwards became an honorary member of the Green Team and promised to help us to make Bankside, and the world, a greener and more sustainable place.
This is what Chris Edwards said about the Green Team on his blog:
“Finally, I met with the ‘Green Team’ a sub-group of the School Council, who are working with the builders to create the greenest school in Leeds. One of the highlights of the visit was that they made me an honorary member of the ‘Green Team’ and I look forward to working with the children to achieve this ambitious goal. Chris”

This is what the Green Team said to Chris Edwards and the questions we asked:
| Shamila: | Welcome to Bankside Primary School. |
| ALL: | We are the Green Team |
| Sanjida: | The Green Team is an interactive educational programme that empowers students and teachers to help the environment through waste reduction, reuse, recycling and composting. |
| Roseanna: | We are making a film about our new school. |
| Hafsah: | This is how our old school used to look. (show picture of old school) |
| Oliur: | The old school was demolished over the summer holidays. |
| Shamila: | The new school building will be bigger, brighter and better for everyone. |
| Hammad: | The new school will be the Greenest school in Leeds. |
| Hafsah: | Being a Green school means that we are doing many things to keep our school environment happy, healthy and safe! |
| Sanjida: | The new school will have a ground source heat pump. There will be pipes under the ground so that the ground source heat pump can pump water into the ground and the water will heat up and come through the pipes back to us. |
| Shamila: | We will have a wildlife area for animals to live in, such as hedgehogs. Hedgehogs don’t have many places to live so they can come and live in our wildlife area. |
| Oliur: | We will grow organic vegetables, which are vegetables that don’t have any pesticides. They are much tastier than normal vegetables (and better for the environment!). |
| Hammad: | We would like to ask you some questions about our new school. |
| Roseanna: | What makes a new school brilliant? |
| Sanjida: | Why do you think we deserve a new school? |
| Hafsa: | What was the school building like when you were a little boy? |
| Roseanna: | Why will the new school be better than the old school? |
| Hammad: | Which school building is the best in Leeds at the moment? |
| Oliur: | As a mark of respect we would like to ask you to be an honorary member of the Bankside Green Team and to accept this certificate and badge. |
